Kim Jiyong 김지용

 

김지용 (b.1992, Korea)은 인물에 대한 관찰과 자의적인 해석을 통해 유년 시절의 가족사진 속 인물들을 재현하는 작업을 지속해왔다. 그는 대상을 관찰하고 그리는 과정에서 자신의 내면 세계를 발견하게 된다고 말한다. 최근 김지용은 사진과 기억 속 인물을 재현하는 방식에서 벗어나, 실제 대상을 관찰한 후 이를 그리는 방식으로 작업을 전환했다. 이를 위해 그는 동시대 사람들의 평범한 일상과 삶을 직접 마주하고자 몇 개월간 호프집 아르바이트를 하였고, 그 경험을 작품화 했다. 이번 《내면의 초상》 전에서는 아르바이트 중의 자신을 담은 <술 따르는 남자>, <주문 받는 남자> 등의 ‘알바 시리즈’ 신작들과, 이젤 앞에서 여러 인물과 씨름하는 작가의 모습을 떠올리게 하는 <이젤이 있는 풍경>, <시계와 얼굴들> 연작들이 소개된다.

Kim Jiyong (b. 1992, Korea) has continuously worked on recreating figures from family photos of his childhood through observation and personal interpretation. He believes that the process of observing and drawing subjects helps him discover his inner world. Recently, Kim has shifted from representing figures from photos and memories to drawing from direct observation of real-life subjects. To achieve this, he worked part-time at a pub for several months to experience contemporary people's everyday lives and incorporated these experiences into his art. In this exhibition Inner Portrait, Kim will present new works from his 'Part-Time Job Series,' including The Man Pouring Drinks and The Man Taking Orders, as well as the Easel Series, which features works such as Landscape with Easel and Clocks and Faces, evoking the artist's struggle with various figures at the easel.

 

Kim Jiyong (b. 1992) graduated with a bachelor's degree in Fashion Design and a master's degree in Korean Painting from Sejong University and currently works in Seoul.
